Rainwater Containers: What to Look For
There are many different kinds of rainwater container, from underground tanks, to above ground barrels. Here are some of the differences in what rainwater containers can be made of that might be important to you as you build up your rain harvesting supplies.
Polyethylene: The newest tanks used in rainwater collection are made of Polyethylene. These rain containers are versatile and can be used above or below the ground. They also last a long time, are light and easy to maneuver, and are weather resistant.
Fiberglass: These tanks also last a long time even under extreme conditions and temperatures. They tend to be more expensive than the above.
Metal: Manufactured out of rust-proof metals, these tanks also tend to last. However, they can be much harder to work with and move, and can be unsightly compared to the two choices above. Even though they are often built to be installed underground, they are often versatile enough to be above ground as well.
Concrete: These are somewhat dated because they are so hard to work with, can crack, and must be below ground. Some people like these tanks because they are seen as more permanent, and they keep the water cool (because they are under ground and are carry the natural coolness of the earth).
These are four examples of the different types of rainwater container. Your local distributor should be able to help you choose the tank that is best for your budget and purpose.
